My Field Trip to Makeup-Land

Recently I visited a well-known cosmetics store. Normally I avoid these types of establishments in favor of CVS’ cosmetics aisle and the Nordstrom Clinique counter. I am someone who simply buys what the lady at the counter tells me to (or what my mom recommends). When I run out, I go back and buy the same product over and over again, unless they stop making it and then I get someone to recommend a substitute. This time, though, I was on a mission:  I had hired a professional to shoot a series of educational videos for my…

The Case of the Missing Pajamas

It started out as a typical day. I showered, dressed, made the bed and headed for my kids’ bedrooms. As I do every weekday morning, I helped my 3 year-old get into her school clothes. After dressing my 2 year-old as well, we went downstairs for breakfast. I saw them off and headed to my office to start my work day. Like I said, it was a typical day. Everything proceeded normally until that night, as we prepared for bed. I went to my daughter’s dresser to get her changed. The pair of pajamas she’d worn the night…

By The Skin of my Teeth

Yesterday I barely made it to Zumba class. As the 5:30pm class time approached I kept glancing at the clock. At 4:45pm I told myself that I needed to get my workout clothes on. I didn’t move. At 5:00pm, I reminded myself to get up and get dressed because I needed to leave in 15 minutes. Instead, I continued to be rooted in my chair, trying to figure out how to get some video files off my camera and onto the computer. Not an urgent task but one I wanted to finish in order to feel a…

I’m Terrible at Playing Pool

I’m terrible at playing pool. This is the conclusion I’ve come to after a few hours of attempted play over the years. I recently had a chance to re-test this theory and learned that yes, it is still accurate. We were in Lake Tahoe with my extended family staying in a gorgeous mountain home. The house had a wonderful game room complete with billiard table. Throughout the day and especially after the toddlers went down each night, the adults enjoyed many games of pool, gathered around the green table for a relaxing time. It wasn’t especially relaxing for…

I Don’t Want to be That Guy

I have a weird story to tell you. Last weekend we took a road trip and stopped at a gas station for some fuel. I went into the little gas station store to buy some drinks for my family. As I approached the cash register, I noticed a guy in front of me. Normal stuff, right? What was interesting was what he was doing….

The First Night Was Awful

Last weekend we went camping with our toddlers and some close friends. I’m really glad we did it… …And I don’t think we’ll do it again any time soon. Why? My three-year old daughter did pretty well. It’s my son who was the challenge. At 21 months, he is in that stage where he climbs up on the picnic table, grabs the ketchup bottle and throws it into the dirt. And, he doesn’t heed any warnings…

Adventures in Face Painting

My 3 year-old LOVES getting her face painted. Everywhere we go where face painting is offered, she is first in line. Every time, she asks for the same images to be inked on her face:  Thomas the Tank Engine and James the Red Engine (my daughter adores trains). On a recent visit to Happy Hollow, a kids’ amusement park in San Jose, she had her entire face painted in a rainbow design. By the time she went down for her nap, the colors had melted over her face into this eerie mask. It was pretty creepy looking, but…

I Just Did Something Really Scary…

I just finished doing something really scary… …and I have never felt so alive! For the past year, I have been in the process of upgrading my coaching credential from Associate to Professional level. It has involved logging hundreds of hours of coaching experience, submitting a detailed application including client and mentor coaching references and completing a three-part exam. The written and recorded coaching exams I completed about nine months ago; they were both doozies. And this past Friday…
