Are you struggling to re-invent your career…or do you know someone who is? I’m happy to announce that on Monday, April 24, 2017, I’ll be conducting a half-day workshop for a wonderful organization, ReBoot Career Accelerator for Women. ReBoot offers a unique set of programs designed by women for women to help them re-enter the workforce after a break in employment to raise children. Their programs help you prepare to compete in today’s connected world, landing a job that makes you feel fulfilled and impactful professionally. 10 Steps to Move Past Self-Imposed Limitations (Part I)

Are you up against something that makes you feel stuck and like you will never be able to conquer it? I recently wrote an article about a stuck place I moved through, and it seems to have struck a chord with many. I thought I would reverse-engineer how I moved past the challenge and share the steps, so you can consider applying the strategies that resonate with you. 1. Move your body. We all know we should be exercising on a regular basis; if you are already into a regular routine, good for you. If you are…

A Life of Intention: An Opportunity to Experiment

I just returned from my annual sojourn to Portland, where I spent a long weekend in deep connection with 1,000 other seekers, people who feel called to “live a remarkable life in a conventional world.” World Domination Summit, the brainchild of author and world traveler Chris Guillebeau, whom I had the good fortune to interview earlier this year, is a pilgrimage for those who want to bask in the company of others who are seeking adventure, community, and service in their lives and careers. Since discovering the conference four years ago, I have designed my year around…

Listen for the Bat Phone

If you’ve ever seen an old Batman TV episode, you’ll remember the special red phone, and when it rang Batman always answered. It was always Commissioner Gordon calling, and it meant that the superhero, and his trusty sidekick Robin, were needed to avert certain disaster for the citizens of Gotham. I find myself using this metaphor with coaching clients, asking: I wonder, what is your personal Bat Phone? What do I mean by that? What I mean is: what is the thing that, when it happens, means that you need to wake up and pay attention to…

Readying the Soil for Planting

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the raised garden bed in my backyard, lying fallow as we ready for the planting season. I am thinking about blending in the rich, loamy compost to bring nutrients to the soil and ultimately to the tender, young seedlings. Then, a deep watering or two to bring moisture back into the sun-baked earth. Both these components are an essential precursor to planting new flowers, vegetables, and fruits. Without these ingredients, plus the consistent care of us gardeners, the plants will not thrive—or even survive. Like the readying of the garden…

A Strong Foundation

When my husband and I purchased our home seventeen years ago, it was just a patch of brown dirt. Slowly, over several months, we observed as the home was constructed, visiting on weekends with our picnic lunch, lawn chairs, and the newspaper to witness the transformation of the bare ground into a lovely two-story house. It was an amazing, empowering experience. We took pictures all along the way. I remember when they poured the foundation, carefully framing it up, placing the rebar, and pouring the cement. They then made sure that the concrete dried flat, so that…

4 Things to Consider Before Working with a Coach

So you want to change your life for the better, and you are considering working with a coach to help you achieve your goals. Good decision! Big decision. To get the most out of your time with a coach, please consider the following things: Past Results: What have other clients been able to achieve as a result of being coached by this person? A coach without references is a red flag. The bonds between a masterful coach and her clients are deep and lasting; past clients who are satisfied with the coaching experience typically write glowing reviews and…
